New Fenix 5X

Arrived today brand new. Set it up and take for a simple circuit. Look at the ride on the app and I made a huge detour!! So mileage is wrong. My Apple watch wasn't. This is pretty shabby from a very expensive watch. Could this be an early glitch or should I expect more of this?

  • I guess many things can interfere with the GPS signal..(but you've done the route with your Apple watch which is accurate) .. You have options which GPS platforms you can use on the watch to see what's best for you.... GPS.. GPS and Galileo..... GPS and Glonass.... I'd try each of the three options.. and see if you can get a better GPS trace.

  • Thanks for the tip. Lets hope it is a one off. Strava on my phone, the Apple Watch and an old Suunto have all got it right.

  • Few things I noticed after installation of new firmware versions so maybe good for new watch too:

    - Let it update to the newest version of Firmware (currently 19.10), or 19.71 beta if you like to play

    - press light button and hold it until watch turns off and 25 seconds more, then release it and start the watch

    - go outside and leave watch on GPS for some time

    - if it does not help you can play further with settings as recommended by Sam (GPS and Glonas, or Galileo, folks report best results with GPS only.

If there are trees/high buildings on your road it may happen that gps is incorrect

  • Thanks for the reply. I have had it out a few times now and it has really settled down. Thanks again for your help.

  • Did you wait until the green circle was shown on the screen, which signals a goo enough gps fix?

First time you might had to wait a bit longer for a good fix, because the location data for gps was not synced to your watch for your location..
