Fenix 5 running distance problem

Hello from Croatia!

Recently I started running again and I've noticed something very odd regarding the logged distance in both run and trail run workouts.

My running partner logs his runs using Strava on his smartphone, and when we run on flat and open terrain, we both log the same distance (recently we both logged 16,3km on a very flat and open surface). But, when we run in parks with small to moderate elevation (up to 5% grade) and with dense trees above us, his log remains correct, while my Fenix 5 logs 3-8 % less distance. We usually run more than 10k, whick sums up to more than 0,5km in difference. By comparing our logs, I can see that the devices logged the same route, but the distance is different. I've been on approx. 10 runs in the last month and a half and it happens every time, so it doesn't have to do with the overcast or any sort of bad weather.

Also, since the trails in these parks are popular here in Zagreb, I know their official lenghts, and they are exactly what my friends' Strava logs.

The other day during my run in the park I was watching my current pace and out of nowhere it fell from 5:35 min/km to 7:05 min/km for a minute or two. How odd is that?

My setup:

Software: 19.10

Data recording: Every Second

I tried both run and trail run, in both 3D speed and distance on and off. I also tried Normal GPS and GPS + Glonass.

Do anyone of you have the same experience and what can be done to fix it?

Best regards,

Anton
