Fenix 5 Pus. Garmin weather widget apparently draining battery "waiting for data" when phone status is off.

Does anyone have any insights on the following that they could share:  Battery started drawing very fast. Like it went from 96% to dead while I slept last night.

When I cycled through the widgets the Garmin weather widget was flashing the Garmin Connect icon, alternating with "searching for phone" error message. So I turned on the phone again but now it just sits there with a "waiting for data" message on the widget.

I had turned off phone pairing. I actually don't pair with a phone but with an iPad, and since I don't carry my iPad around with me, and don't really need to know what the outside temp is all day every day, I don't see why the two devices constantly need to be in contact. But, apparently, when it is NOT in contact, the Garmin goes crazy trying to establish contact even though pairing status is "off."

So it APPEARS that the device will kill its own battery trying to connect to a "phone" (or iPad or whatever) even when phone status is intentionally set to off.

Does that make ANY sense to anyone? Am I missing something?

Thanks.

  • I am sorry you are having a fast battery drain issue. Your weather widget option is more than most likely not responsible for the fast drain. Otherwise, the millions of Fenix watches worldwide would all be experiencing a fast drain when the Fenix watch is not connected to a tablet or smartphone. There are a couple of things you can try that may bring your watch battery back around to normal behavior.

    Please try the following:

    1) Power your watch off and on again

    2) Hard Reset - hold down your power button until your watch powers off then let go

I am sorry you are having battery drain issues. Please note, we have not had any pattern worldwide since the firmware software update released last month but you may still be able to resolve your issue with the basic troubleshooting I provided above. Please be sure to try the steps given.
