Showing map without a course

Is it possible to show a map on my fenix 5x WITHOUT having to select a navigate option , ie a course?

This is such a pain; I have to think of where I'm possibly going to, then find a poi etc etc ; also the route tends to clutter the map..

I have various other garmin devices (latest GPSMAP 66) where I don't have to have a 'route' but

can just follow the map and the map follows me .

I've sofar not been able to find how to do this.

Yes its the "Map" activity I think you want.

Somehow I can't find map as an activity but have discovered that I can use hiking then select the map.

I still have to 'start the activity' but at least that's better than having to search for a poi
