Heart rate is extremely unreliable and even stops monitoring for certain periods. When heart rate is in reality 140 he shows 61. Tried everything, different positions, arm change, no way to get it only close to reality.

altimeter needs very frequent calibration to keep it in the zone

bought the Fenix 5 for mountain hiking, which means use of poles. Step counter is easily 30% off.

honestly, I only bought it a few weeks ago but never again!!!

  • 1. HR at wrist is BS; never use it if you are a serious athlete

    2. Of course this is called weather

    3. I agree on that. The rest of my family has Forerunners and they have much more steps with poles; there was one FW where Garmin had fixed this. I begged them to keep it that way. You know the rest of the story...

  • All wrist hr monitors struggle with any activity where you tense your arm muscles. I find wearing the watch high on the forearm nearer the elbow facing in improves results dramatically.
Altimeter does need calibration I do it about once a month.
And as for steps who cares you have gps and 3D distance on the F5. If you want lots of steps counted get a cheap Fitbit and you’ll have steps coming out of your ears.
