Battery goes flat while on charge because of update

A few times I've had this happen with Fenix 5X. I thought it was cable faults (and it might be) but I just had it happen again with a fairly new cable. Now I suspect it might be updates causing it.

Last night I plugged it in, made sure it said it was charging, left it overnight and in the morning the watch had turned itself off. Turned it on and it said it only had 5% battery.

Plugged back into charger and it said it was now charging, 5%, 7% ... charge increased as you'd expect.

After charging for awhile I unplugged it and got notification of an update and did I want to do it now or later.

I seem to remember that this has happened a few times now, that it would go flat even whilst on charger and when an update has just occurred.

I certainly see other people having issues with rapid drain or flat batteries just after an update

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Something similar happened my 5s. Ran auto update to 15.10, software seems to have corrupted somehow. It wouldn’t recognise the battery level as being full. The watch thought it was critically low and wouldn’t boot up. Rendered it useless, I tried rolling back firmwares and a few other tricks but nothing worked. This watch never gave me any trouble in the six months that I had it until then.

Luckily it was under warranty and recently replaced.

You have ruled out the cable as the source of problems but what about the charger? What charger are you using?

Good point RonHi. The charger is a fairly run of the mill adapter that powers the USB hub that I plug into. I haven't really ruled out the cable because I see it becoming sensitive to bumps, needing to be cleaned and so-on.

Actually I suspect there is maybe more than one thing going wrong here, but I was struck by the 'coincidence' of it going flat when on the charger just after an update.

However, I'll keep the charger in mind too.
