Foretex 601 accuracy

I've been a fan of the Foretrex series since the 101 and have upgraded over the years to 401 and now 601. Each upgrade promised better things. 101 to 401 better reception/signal strength in difficult areas (e.g.dense woodland) due to a better aerial and now better accuracy 401-601 due to access to GLONASS or Galileo in addition to GPS.

I use the positional information for recording wildlife in the UK using GB OS Grid references (standard in UK for wildlife recording). Normally a six figure gridref (to 100m) is sufficient but, occasionally for e.g. noting invasive plant species I aim for a more accurate location so that they can be controlled. This where the accuracy of the location information at any given time is important so that I can record against an eight (to 10m) or even 10 figure (to 1m) gridref with a confidence factor.

Both the 101 and 401, and I might add other GPS devices I posses and even some smartphone apps, give an accuracy figure but the 601 it seems does not.

I've been informed by Garmin support that the 601 is so accurate that I don't need that information (but I do !) and, in any event it's too difficult for the device to calculate if you are using more than one global location system (e.g. GPS and Galileo) but it seems some of the Garmin handheld devices that also give access to more than one system manage to provide accuracy information so I'm a bit dubious.

So first of all is it that I just can't find the information on the 601 or, if it really is not displayed anywhere, are there others out there that find this omission a big weakness in the 601.

I would go back to my 401 but I gave it away - as I did when I went  from 101-401 !!

I am assuming this is the right sub-forum for this device as I can't find specifically listed it in any of the drop down lists under "Outdoor Recreation" etc.
