Still no battery fix! What a joke!

  • Excellent, thank you. Should there also be a fix for active calorie counting ?

  • Still no battery fix! What a joke!

I could certainly be wrong but I happen to think that it is a mistake to think that a battery fix must come through a firmware upgrade at all or solely through a firmware upgrade. That position assumes that the battery problem is firmware related. I suspect, but stress that I obviously don't know, the battery issues may lie elsewhere. One of my suspects is in the way the multiplicity of Garmin connect services use data and thus consuming power.

I also think it is a mistake to think that Garmin is not working on this, thought I will hardly defend their communication strategy or lack of one.

I think a debug file that existed in the 14.77 build that does not exist in the 15.10 build was in my view clearly placed there by Garmin to provide them with telemetry on power consumption under various scenarios. The file created debug on the state of the battery when plugged in and the time used by various sensors since the last charge. This file provided them with far more data than the posts in this forum. This is an entry:

    1-27-2020 02:15:50 UTC

    Software: 14.77

Time on since last charge:    2d:12:54:47 (219287 sec)

Time in low power:            2d:09:49:02 (208142 sec)

Time with backlight on:       00:45:52 (2752 sec)

Time with GPS on:             00:12:33 (753 sec)

Time with OHR active scan on: 00:06:09 (369 sec)

Time with WIFI on: 00:00:00 (0 sec)

Time with ANT active scan on: 00:14:25 (865 sec)

Time with BLE active scan on: 00:14:23 (863 sec)

Time with GCM connected:      2d:07:27:38 (199658 sec)

    Device info when plugged in:

    Battery percentage:           56.050785%

    Current backlight mode:       3

    Current backlight brightness: 20%

Finally, I think it is unreasonable to fail to recognize that all of the non-battery features that are being addressed in the successive upgrades are unimportant to people who experience the issues being resolved. The fact that many of them are not routinely discussed in this forum with the same frequency as the battery consumption issue doesn't make them unimportant. You can be sure they are seen by Garmin through support calls. I think the fact that these are being addressed should be seen as a positive. The forum is not the sole source of customer complaints nor bug notifications. and power is clearly not the only problem that users experience.
