I have owned the Fenix 5X watch with an HRM Tri chest strap for the past 2 years and have been very happy with them. They are premium products with a premium price tag and they work as advertised. Unfortunately, my chest strap stopped sending data so I took it to the repair centre in Mong Kok, Hong Kong. This is where the love affair with Garmin ends. The very nice lady at the service centre changed the battery, tried to sync it with her Garmin watch and said there is nothing more I can do, you will need to purchase a new HRM Tri. WTF? I asked if she could send it to a technician so I could find out why it stopped working, and as it was no longer under warranty I could pay to have it fixed. She said that Garmin accessories such as chest straps don't get repaired but only replaced and I could purchase another one for 1219HKD (approx. 150 USD). I am very disappointed with Garmin from a consumer and environmental point of view. From a consumer point of view this is a premium priced product with a 1 year warranty that leaves you with no options after that year except to replace it. Environmentally, its no different than a plastic bag or a plastic straw; wasteful, disposable and non reusable. For a premium brand this is shameful. Another fun fact I learned is that my 5X will not be repaired if something goes wrong, they will give a refurbished one for 1350 HKD ( approx.200USD ). It doesn't matter what is wrong with it, no repair just replacement, and that this policy is only valid for 5 years from purchase and after that the product is no longer supported. Again, WTF? I'm not leasing this watch, I purchased it and I expect much better product support for a much longer time. I'm very surprised by this lack of product support coupled with shameful environmental policies at Garmin and I will not be purchasing Garmin products again.
