Today, in 6 hours, my Fenix 5 lost 95% of the battery charge.

No activity, 976 steps walked (recorded) ....

Anybody have any ideas??....

I wish I do. Mine is doing the same thing. Not quite one year old. I love the watch but am really bummed out. It’s an expensive piece to be so messed up.

    Hi
even my fenix5 suddenly started to discharge (in less than 12 hours from 100% to 0%) and mine also has just one year of life ...
fw 15 is out today ... hopefully good.
when I installed the fw 12 it lasted 15 days

I hope that garmin solves the problem

hi, bad news guys, at least for me, even with the last fw the battery situation doesn't change ... loaded this morning and I'm already at 45% ...

    This is crazy -

yesterday, after it dropped as stated in the original post.... it survived on 3% for 4.5 hours....

I then charged it to 17% before exercising for 30 mins, after which it was 17% still.

charged it overnight, and this morning - so far, it has used 2% in 3 hours....everything is on as normal, Bluetooth, heart rate, notifications etc...

    software is still 14.20 ....

I just upgraded my Fenix 5 to software v15.1 yesterday and so far have only lost 3% charge in 24+ hours! (Knock on wood this trend continues!)  This is after monitoring battery drainage over the prior 7 day period and losing 1-2% per hour, and 11-15% overnight. A full charge would last 2 1/2-3 days max.

I don’t know if this is an anomaly, but it’s awesome for now! Kudos to Garmin if they were able to cure the Fenix 5 battery drain problem with this software upgrade, even if it took awhile. I was getting super bummed and pissed off that my year old “investment” was rapidly becoming obsolete. Will continue to monitor and see how it goes.

  • How did you get the upgrade? Upgraded to 14.2 and battery  life is terrible. Only 12 hours recording an activity and 60 hours just in watch mode. Got fobbed off by Garmin with generic battery saving tips that were insulting to be honest. If I can't get decent battery life it's the end of Garmin for me !

  • Those with battery issues, have you considered your watch battery is simply nearing end of life?

  • @thr4 Nearing end of life?

With a 3 year old device and average 1 charge a week means 150 charge cycles

No, the battery should not near it’s end of life. It should be able te do 500 charge cycles without problems.

  • That makes sense. But there are other factors (and maybe the battery is faulty). I have a Fenix 5 bought in June 2017, charge it maybe every 2 weeks, I was on every firmware including betas, I am using Connect IQ fields and widgets and have no battery drain issues. Find it difficult that the issues would persist (if software related) even after hard reset.
