Connecting to Android 9 vs. IOS

I've moved from an iPhone to Android 9. On the iPhone my email/phone smart phone alerts all made it to the Fenix5s, and the it showed as linked without Connect being open. On Android 9 it appears that I need the app open all the time to connect. I'm very IT literate with PCS but phones are my blind spot. How do I maintain the smart alerts without having Connect open all the time? Maybe it was running in the background in IOS?

No sure how you have set up your Android phone. Normally you should get all notifications to watch although Connect is closed for a long time. The correct settings should be - on Android system settings level you need to allow connect to access all apps from which you want notifications, on Connect application level you need to set which application can notify to watch. Then is question, if you have set battery saving, if yes, you need to add connect into battery saving exceptions to allow it to run and to be able to manage notifications.

What phone is it? I know that Xiaomi and Huawei tend to kill the apps and not allowing them to run in the background (need to lock the app from being killed in the background). There shouldn't be any issues with stock Android phones.
