Wifi Sync not working as it has been.

It has been for over a year and a half working well. I sync hardwired, from android, and when I enter my house, by wifi. Early on I had glitches and if I wired it up. I would remove wifi from Fenix when wired in GC, then add back and all worked fine. Occasional glitch after sync using Android Phone and then Sync by wifi (bt not still enabled). Occasionally would be flaky whether just out of range, but usually clears up checking the above. I believe my Fenix got an update a couple of days ago. I am running Version 14.20.0.0.

  • OK.... Weirdness and I have to believe it's on Garmin's end. When I do a sync by wifi my watch face shows transferring and normally after 2 seconds will kick back the red screen. I know it's on line and connected or it would show an error that it can't connect to a network.

Twice... Yesterday and just now, I synced my Fenix to wifi and transfer was on for a longer period before the red screen. But... Funny enough the activity was right there when I opened Garmin Connect, even though is showed an error.

Earlier today I had removed the wifi from my Fenix, rebooted and loaded it back when I wired to my workstation and added it through Garmin Express. I then tried to sync to no avail. So something on Garmin's end is not working as it should. I should have received a transfer complete green screen in all the above occasions.

  • Update** Did a sync this morning and acknowledged by timestamp on GC. Watch face still shows the red, X Transfer Failed screen.

  • I thought I resolved this issue a few days ago after contacting support and deleting a number of folders and after unplugging finding I now was getting a successful transfer screen.

The last 2 days I added two activities and synced bwo my android phone. Today I just tried to sync by wifi and again, it transferred the data correctly, but threw the red transfer unsuccessful screen.

I was going to see if it possibly wasn't having to do with the past deleting of folders on my watch but if was just more fully syncing using Garmin Connect on workstation or phone as opposed to the Fenix. Upon trying to sync by wifi after unplugging I new get a green successful transfer screen.

This seems similar to issues from over a year ago I described. I am turning off bluetooth after each transfer in any case as I don't bother with notifications.

  • Never showing a Successful Transfer screen now, though activity is transferred and watch synced and getting the red X. Not planning on a complete watch reset for this, but now a bug I will workaround for the future I guess.

*day later... Workaround if occurs... Plug in Fenix to pc. Open garmin folder and delete Wifi folder. Successful Transfer screen. Seems to retain network as well. I did this already so a partial solution when it reoccurs.

  • Thanks John , my fenix 5x has been doing exactly the same , I have hotkeyed the bottom right hand button to sync over wifi when I get back from my ride . Its also giving me the red screen wifi "transfer failed" but my ride is uploaded to Garmin connect. I will try what you suggest and report back

  • Robprid... It is now fixed it appears by the most recent software update. I am on Version 19.10 and that seems to have cleaned it up.

  • Hi John , this morning it did it again. I am on the latest version 19.10 . Are you suggesting deleting the "wi-fi" folder on Garmin ? ps. My ride did upload even though it said "transfer failed"

  • You can. I did that on occasion and did not change anything. One thing I did note was if I tried to do a sync (wifi sync not using phone) while the watch was still on Bluetooth but my phone off, it would show the red error screen. Then turning Bluetooth off on the watch and syncing again would then give me the green successful transfer screen. Would come and go after and as long as I knew the transfer was successful I ignored it. I have found 19.10 seems to have fixed mine. Would not hurt to delete the wifi folder though after you've updated everything as it will recreate it.

  • Hi John . Strangely my watch did another update again yesterday over bluetooth (19.10) and after the ride this morning all is good. Lets hold thumbs that the latest update works.
