Tonight is the second time I have noticed a change in my Fenix 5X's behavior of either not recording, or under-recording activity points during a cycling event.
Over the past several months I have discovered that the only way to get 'credit' (activity points) saved to GC when recording the activities on my Edge 830 is to also wear my Fenix 5X during the ride (but NOT record the activity via the watch activities). The approach causes the F5X to auto detect the activity and start recording the actiivity points. This behavior seems to have changed in the last week or two!
Tonight, I went for an outdoor ride and had all my sensors connected to my Edge 830 (speed/Cad, Power, HR, etc)-all of them, BTW, that have been connected to the F5X in the past as well. I rode for 65 minutes at a casual pace (average HR was 134 bpm), temp was cold (29F avg, 25F min), in the dark. F5X was on my wrist, securely held to my arm by the watch band, and further held secure by my jacket. The HR was recorded, as can be seen below:
As you can see below, there is no 'auto-detect' activity that took place. However, the Edge recorded and uploaded the activity just fine on it's own (like it normally does-I start and stop the activity).
Would it really be too much to ask for Garmin to commonize their 'ecosystem' and just simply assign activity points to activities recorded on an Edge device also? I kind of sense a bias from all the badges assigned to running (a ton) vs. cycling (a moderate amount). Is this bias also in effect to not assign 'activity points' to Edge-based activities? I wish the Edges were generate these points because most times cyclist wear a much more reliable source of HR data (strap) so the integrity of the data and 'activity' is much more accurate than the wrist-based HR of the F 5X (and others).
Anyone else see this issue? Any suggestions?
This wasn't a problem at all through the months of July - September. Why now? What changed???
