Notifications whilst exercising

Does anyone know how to access notifications whist in exercise mode, specifically when the notification pop up closes - is there a way to get back to it?

If it's already closed the easiest way is to hold the down button to return to the watch face and then use the up and down buttons to scroll to the notification widget. The activity will continue to record in the background. Once you're done just go back to the watch face and then press the start button to return to your activity.
