Beta 14.72 Installed and Testing

I installed the newest Beta Firmware Update 14.72. I shall provide feedback over the next day or two. The installation was straight forward and uneventful. The watch restarted as expected. Battery was at 71% after disconnecting the watch following the file transfers. After the installation was completed and the watch restarted, the battery gauge on my watch face was still reading 71%. 4 minutes after installation, the battery gauge on my watch face updated to 72%, which is very interesting, it maybe that the watch face was now rounding up a fraction from 71.x to 72. I should point out for what it is worth, that I disconnected the watch from the computer at the point at which the battery % moved from 69% to 70%.

Edit #1: Just as I posted, I observed that the battery on my watch face updated to 73%, this would be 11 minutes after installation and restarting. This is getting even more interesting.

Edit #2: Battery 74% after 22 minutes

  • I am now able to say after 24 hours and 22 minutes (Battery status rose to 74%, 22 minutes after installation) of use since installation of the 14.72 Beta, that battery drain for me is as it was with 14.20. To be fair, the Change Log never mentioned power, but I was hoping that one of the "other miscellaneous code improvements and bug fixes" was going to positively impact battery drain. I don't play golf, I don't swim with my Garmin and I don't run on a treadmill so I can't comment on any of the primary fixes identified in the Change Log.

My battery consumption was around 7% per day without exercise and GPS use, even after the initial introduction of 14.20. Sometime later, the consumption increased to the 10 to 12% per day with no real change on my part.

Since the installation of this Beta, my battery has drained from 74% to 60%, a drop of 14% in the 24 hours since it hit 74%, 22 minutes after installing the update.

I will review again after a full recharge.
