Ride activity continuing after connection to speed sensor is lost

Here's a possibly impossible and somewhat ridiculous problem. I use the watch even during commuting and for me that oftentimes means going inside buildings with my bike staying outside. The inconvenience I'm facing is that after connection to my speed sensor is lost, the ride continues using just GPS. And while inside buildings, GPS keeps on getting randomly inaccurate positions, so from the perspective of the watch, I'm moving. It's mostly annoying because the watch keeps on beeping and vibrating, but sometimes I panic that someone is moving my bike.

Any ideas? Yes, I'm aware I can just stop the activity and resume later, the problem is that I forget 100% of the time to resume the ride :D
Currently, I'm thinking about creating an extra GPS disabled profile just for commuting, but it's a less than ideal solution for me, mainly because I like to be able to verify places I've visited on a particular day (was able to determine dates of purchase in the past).

  • Have you tried enabling pause? I find with the speed sensor that setting works very well.

Yes, I'm using autopause, that's exactly the issue. When I leave the bike outside and walk into a building, the watch looses connection to the sensor. At that point, it begins using GPS for speed detection and that's not desirable for me because it's picking up my walking. Furthermore, when I'm standing still inside a building, the watch is getting random inaccurate position locks, so it thinks I'm constantly moving around and stopping. So I'm getting a ton of random beeps.
I'm probably going to resort to using autopause at a certain speed instead of stopping, but that's also not ideal because I ride off-road and see some really slow climbs sometimes, which may trigger a pause.

  • Ah never thought about that. I usually don't go more than a few feet from bike...usually just to take a leak in the woods or fill up water bottles! :-)

I actually bought the speed sensor for the more technical parts of a ride because would lose distance/auto pause/get confused on slow climbs, rock gardens, etc without it!

  • The auto-pause with a custom speed is probably the best solution.

Perhaps you could use a separate profile for urban cycling with buildings, and for your off-road riding, with separate autopause settings on each?

Yeah, you're right. I set it up today to 4kmh and it's been mostly fine.
