Just got a replacement after the pin corrosion, how is your f5 holding up?

Hi guys,

I just got a brand new replacement for my Fenix 5, but I believe it's an old production unit, since it has a 7 months old firmware (12.40) and the silver pins like the other one.

I'm expecting the same issue I had before in the next weeks or months, so how is yours holding up? I read about people asking for 2 or more replacement after just some weeks.

Also, any news on how to prevent this to happens?

edit: old serial was 5361xxxxx, new one is 5363xxxxx

No, it was rust for sure but I cleaned it then, there are two minor dots which remained but can't be seen easily. Hopefully, no appearance since than.

And..I agree, this is not acceptable for premium watch but I learned to leave with that.

I had Galaxy Watch before Fenix 5 and it had so many design issues and the worst customer support..to be honest I am tired of "fighting" with REM. It's easier to put this tape once in 10 days, watch is great sport tracker.

I've had mine for a month and it looks like this. Worried it's just going to keep happening every time I get a replacement under warranty.

Mine came out of the box looking like that, hasn't got any worse

So, what about those rubber caps they sells on amazon for couple of bucks to cover the charge port? They should work like the tape, I guess.

It looks like a gold pin: was it also a refurbished or a replacement unit? This s/n looks older than mine or michalis

They make it worse as they dont let the humidity escape.

Keep exchanging it until it doesnt happen. For me it took two exchanges.

I have a feeling they changed pin 2 as this is the one that pulses signal to see if there is a pc connected.

It always seems to be where the corrosion is

Either that or they have just cleaned up some returned ones and sent them back out.

It looks like a different material. It is not shiny

A month ago I received a replacement. For a very long time I did not want to change since my watch was in perfect condition, but the contact almost fell apart. The replacement came in an old box, of a different color, without the sticker that is on the new watch and the second pin does not shine as brightly as the others. I concluded that this is a restored watch. And the most common thing is that in the new watch the pulse sensor does not work correctly (at rest). On Monday, I will return it to the service center.

That's why I didn't want to replace it. The unit that I have works like a charm, it's not a problem to stick this little piece of tape every 10 days.
