Race against an activity: based on GPS or just distance (Fenix 5+)

Hi

I often use "race against an activity", especially when running races. I used to have a 930XT, on which is was possible to choose either 1) by GPS-track (then it had to be the exact same route) or 2) by distance (then you could race another place)

What about Fenix5+? I want to race against the GPS-track, to know for sure that it is the same time for the route. Otherwise, if it is by distance, if the measurement is a bit off, then the virtual partner also will be off.

Thanx

  • Hi Nicolaj,

Fenix5+ can still do that, it is still called racing an activity (or Virtual Racer). First you start a new activity and than go to training. It can be done from history, which means from the watch, or it can be downloaded from Garmin connect. Unfortunately I'm having some issue's with the "from history"where it would go 2 minutes wrong on a 5K run. However if I download the same previous run via GarminConnect it is OK, so that would be a workarround. I used it on my Forerunner 610 a lot. I have a Fenix5s, but probably the same on the Fenix+.

Stangely I don't see many people using this great tool!!!

  • Sigrid - thanks for sharing. It is good to know about this workaround.

  • Good night.

Actually it was a really good feature on Garmin 610, but I reckon it is not the same on Garmin 5X...

You right, it is possible to select a from history a previous  run, but instead of showing the actual run on the exact spot it shows as an average from the run...

Trying to explain better... if the run involved a first half up hill and slower e.g., it will show that you are running slower, even if you are running quicker on that segment, while on Garmin 610 was showing the time difference exactly on the same spot...

I think I am not wrong, but last time I tried to use it was months and months ago, when I realize it was average difference I stop using it..

    Best Regards,
