Indoor activity distance/speed are not recorded

I used my Garmin Fénix 5 Gray Optic when playing floorball, with GPS off, and distance was 0 after finishing the activity. The manual says "When running or walking with GPS turned off, speed, distance, and cadence are calculated using the accelerometer in the device. The accelerometer is self-calibrating".

What should I do to have distance recorded for my indoor activities using the device only?

  • I found out that distance for indoor activity is measured only if e.g. Indoor Track activity or its copy are used. I also asked local Garmin support and they replied that measuring distance for indoor activities using accelerometer is not optimized for sports like floorball, football, tennis, etc., and it is only intended for continual movement like indoor track or treadmill.
