Confused about using round trip course

I'm confused about round trip courses. I asked for a 1 mile run course this evening. The Fenix 5 presented 3, I chose the first one and selected Go. I walked the course. So what is supposed to happen when you hit the end of the course? Is the run supposed to be saved in some magic way? Do I need to stop the navigation through the menu? I tried stopping navigation, and no run was recorded.

I also tried starting a course with Go and then starting the run with the Start button. That was very strange in that it kept redirecting me back to the start of my course.

I don't see other people talking much about this here or other places like Reddit, so I assume I'm doing something wrong.

When you finished your walk..you press stop.... and choose save option.

Did you start your course when you were already away from the start point?..... that could have confused the navigation.

I requested the course and started it in the same place. I don't see how it could be confused about that. But stranger things have happened.
