I bought Garmin Fenix 5 yesterday and took it for a MTB ride, see the activity in Garmin Connect here, wearing it on the wrist. It calculated the total ascent (elevation gain) of 1598 m, which is unrealistically too much. I checked in settings that "GPS only" is used.
If I use Czech hiking maps and plan the same route, the calculated elevation gain is 564 m.
Knowing that a certain smoothing is applied on mapy.cz, I exported the route as gpx and used uTrack - online GPX track report generator to calculate the elevation gain to be 704 m. Knowing the route very well (main ascents are continuous without any "up and down" sections), I believe those 700 m are realistic.
Finally, my cell phone (Sony Xperia Z5 Compact) calculated 750 m on a route very similar to the one above.
My questions is: what should I do to make the elevation gain calculated by Fenix 5 realistic?
