Treadmill Calibration seems broken on Software 14.10 and 14.20 Fenix 5X

After the update to software version 14.10 and after updating to 14.20 my treadmill runs have been throwing slower paces in the order of 12minutes /km when the machine is giving me just below 8 minutes/km, I have ended the treadmill activity about 2 or 3 times with the calibrate and save option entering the actual distance, but it seems there is no change, and the runs after calibrating keep the slow pace.

Hey there, I submitted more data about my watch calculations failing.  I ran my usual 6.1 miles in the morning (had to calibrate from about 4 miles up to 6.1, so clearly the step calculation continues to be off) and then I walked my dog 2.41 miles using the GPS (no step calibration needed there as I've been walking the same route for years).  So 6.1 + 2.41 = 8.5 miles for the day just for those 2 activities, not including my normal running around doing all of the things steps.. And when I looked at the total milage for the day it registered 19,440 steps and only 7.89 miles.. Ha!  Math is hard.  So I submitted screenshots of that data from my Garmin app from my iPhone (as well as gave them access to my Garmin account data and had sent them back my original Fenix 5s watch so they could analyze the hardware).  The response I got:

    Hi Peggy,

Thank you for the additional information. Please keep an eye out for a new firmware update for your watch. We do not have any official word but we should be getting close to the normal timeline that the issue will likely be resolved soon.

    Take care!

    Kind regards,

    Chris

Not sure what "normal timeline" means unless they have some sort of continuous integration product release cycle and they have updates every X iteration.  No clue.  I don't know what more to do.  I do love this watch for most other features but step calculation seems to be their core business so I'm confused how they are getting this so wrong.

    I guess we wait.

  • From Garmin support... Looks like the beta has the fix so now it's just time to wait for the fix to go in to the main release...

still an issue for me... i had two test runs of exactly the same speed and same time and i calibrated after the first run... they were 2 miles each but first run reported as 1.6 and the next was 1.42....each on same treadmil and 5 minutes apart.

and all of this was on a replacement watch because the liars told me my watch was bad 2 weeks ago... so i swnt in my old one and gor a refurbished one all at my own expense... and lo and behold, it is all of their fault!!!!!!! i am so pissed

same for me, but fenix 5...I'm pissed that I had to pay for shipping myself and I got a refurbished watch in place of the one I had and this was only recently - meaning they made me get a refurbished watch knowing full well the problem was not the watch but their stupid update.

I finally broke down and just got a foot pod, after about a month and a half of being frustrated. It worked perfectly right out of the box. It's annoying to have to spend $60 to get treadmill tracking, but I had already spent well over $60 in stress about it being broken

  • Ready to go to a foot pod, supper frustrated and its killing my stats. I here the Stryd for pod works great out of the box and has useful stats, any thoughts? Is it worth $200?

  • I don't know if it's worth spending $200 when a fix is (allegidly) in beta testing. I've found that using "indoor running" instead of treadmill has been pretty close for me. You can edit the activity in the app to change it to a treadmill run and update the distance. Too bad you can't adjust the "indoor running" distance directly on the watch.

I have lost so much faith in Garmin when it comes to running.  The Fenix series has been broken for treadmill calibration since August and they have not fixed the issue yet.  It makes me question the integrity of other Garmin devices (airplanes, boats, etc).  My watch face is randomly changing too.  For now I choose Indoor Track when I run each morning on the treadmill.  That seems to overestimate slightly as opposed to when I choose Treadmill and it's woefully continuously inaccurate.  They said a fix was coming at the end of October.  Where is it?  So so lame.  These engineers should be embarrassed,
