Garmin repair policy is a disaster!

One year after purchasing Fenix 3, Start/Stop button stopped working and I got a new Fenix 3 with restarted warranty of 2 years. Few months after warranty expired, none of the buttons are responding except the Power button - I can only turn it on/off, which means that the watch is useless now because it doesn't show correct time.

I took my watch to Garmin repair service (in Croatia) - they said that probably the water got in and it just stopped working (btw, fenix 3 comes with 10 ATM water resistance rating). They offered 30% discount for any new watch (and I give them the old Fenix 3) and I give them the old one. I said, I don't want new one, I want mine to be repaired. They said it's not possible. I asked is it possible to replace the motherboard since that was initial diagnosis. They said it's not possible to replace the motherboard.

I wonder is this global politics of Garmin - to cut any reasonable support for existing users whose wearables warranty expired or this is just the case with Croatia? This isn't a 50$ watch. We are talking about 500$ watch - I would expect some reasonable repair support for such large business instead of "sorry, can't repair it, buy a new one".

  • I had the same thing with my Xbox one X - power supply went on it (internal) about six months after warranty expired and Microsoft's response was I had to buy a new one. They didn't even offer a trade in.

I would understand this if the warranty was 5 years, but giving 2 years warranty for such expensive watch and not providing any repair service - not something I would expect from Garmin.

I had 2 fenix 3 watches died in period of 3 years and now I am suppose to spend 2-3 times more money to buy a new model? And I should probably keep it in a safe and cold place to make it last long, even though it is suppose to be water resistant and sport watch?

Dear Garmin, polishing watches and replacing bands is not a repair service. Repair service should provide repairs for broken things.

11 months after being repaired by some 3rd party repair shop, I decided to go swimming with it - 3 minutes after swimming the watch died!
