Fenix 5 with 14.1 update high battery drain

I updated my garmin fenix 5 with 14.10. I still have problems with high battery consumption.
Consume 1% per hour. With software 13.1 I had consumption of 5% per day. I tried to reinstall 13.1 but now it continues to consume a lot, always 24% a day. What can I do?
  • hi,

you may have an Iphone, this issue is not due to the device but due to Garmin Connect IOS, you have to use GARMIN IQ app, and the app has to be installed by it too

you would need to uninstall and reinstall with GARMIN IQ

  • This happened to me also, the faces are still on the mobile app, they just need to be installed again

  • Same here. Reverted to 13.30. Testing the battery now. Garmin connect app syncs with my watch (on iPhone) But the connect IQ app cant see the device. I uninstall and reinstalled the connect IQ app but still nothing. Can't see the device.

  • When you revert you will loose the connection with connect app. You need to setup the device again and it will take a while to sync all the data back to the watch.

  • Just an observation, maybe it helps to someone with 14.10. I installed GPS 2.51 beta ove 14.10 and ful charged watch last week and started to have drain like 3 % per hour. I made soft reset (long holding of power button still 20 seconds after watch was off and then turn on), drain stopped, just had activities afterwards so was difficult to check real drain. So I charged the watch yesterday morning 10.00 and today 2 PM I still have 93% (no activity, just few alarms), HR on, garmin normal watch face.

  • That worked!  Thank you for the suggestion.  I used the Garmin IQ app and I'm now able to save settings.

  • Yes it does sync with the Connect app but the Connect IQ still does not sees the watch as connected. I unistalled the IQ app and re-installed. Its still says in the Device section "Fenix 5" but it is shown as not connected.

  • Garmin France replied to me (by phone): "yes, we have heard about a few feedbacks like this"... :-)

They told me to roll back to 13.30 (which worked well, battery drain is much lower now), until they notify me with an update that fixes the problem.

  • i have the same problem, i did a cycle route for 2 hours and that is around the time it started. i did a hard reset and the problem is the same, it has not gone away.

I did download the connect IQ app when it suggested and it shows my watch, and WIFI next to it. could that be the problem that WIFI is on?

i need to fix this as i am going on a trip soon. would hate to have it run outta batteries out there.

  • think mine was the same issue -- full charged last night -- 5k run this morning which tracked and then it died this morning -- pretty sure there is something in the full charge --- in any case will check it tonight and charge again -- most likely will revert to old firmware
