Fenix 5 stalled/idled after charging

Hi all, i encounter frequent "stalled/idle" whenever I finish charging my Fenix 5.  Need to long press "light" button to power off. Then press "light" button to turn on . It's been some times with other version too. My Fenix 5 current version is 12.40.  Oh yeah, I am charging my watch from Macbook Pro USB.

Please advise what's wrong or should I charge direct from wall wart USB power charger ?

  • This is quite common.

It happens when you do not properly eject your device before unplugging it.

It happens with various models. My forerunner 935 has the same problem, also with a macbook. Others report the problem with windows computers.

I reported the problem, but garmin told my it was hardware related. I dont think so.

They also claim the problem does not occur on other devices than mine. Even here on the forum someone from garmin wrote he never heard of the problem and there it stopped.

So far garmin refuse to proper look into the problem. It’s a shame!

To prevent the problem, use a usb wallplug charger.

  • Hi Elbo, thanks for your input and sorry for late reply.

Yeah, I have tried twice to closed the GC apps on my Macbook Pro and eject Garmin on Finders before unplug the USB charging cable... now it seems no more idle/stall .  Usually I charge with Macbook Pro as I want to sync and to get latest apps and widgets update.

  • Agreed, Garmin should look into solving problem and not leave things hanging... then they release another Fenix 6 series.  *shame*
