Run workout not saving

For the second time in three days, or put another way, in the last 2 of 3 run workouts, my Fenix 5x was unable to complete saving the run workout.

The first time this happened, I was barely a mile into a short run and noticed the distance showed 0.00. The GPS had locked on before the run, as indicated by the red progression that became the green ring. I stopped the timing and restarted with no change. So I stopped the workout, selected save, and it just saved... saved... saved. Finally, I rebooted the watch. Started the run app again, locked onto GPS, and run. At the end of the run, it saved normally. That was Friday. Today, Sunday, I went for a run with the run app in an area with easy 360* sky view, waited for the GPS green ring, and hit start. I noticed about 30min later that it showed distance as zero but it gave me a pace. Instead of stopping the timing, I kept rolling. After I hit stop, showed zero distance. When I hit save, I let it "save" for 20min before I manually rebooted the watch.

I connected the watch to the laptop via Garmin Express and cable. Of course, there is no .fit file for today's run. Besides the frustration of losing a good run in heat today, because this happened twice in three days, my confidence in the watch's ability to perform its job is shaken.

I've also noticed that the bike workout from yesterday is not on the watch, despite the setting that it should (and it appears in Garmin Connect).

Has anyone else experienced this?

Since the workout does not appear to be "hiding" on the watch in temp form or anything, I will do a factory reset and see what comes of that.

A quick follow up: I have not yet done a factory reset but did another run "workout," this time while just walking. I confirmed the GPS lock-on (green ring) before hitting start. Let it record for 5 minutes while walking. It recorded zero distance traveled and trying to save resulted in the same failed save as noted above. Three of last four uses have been a failure.

  • What system software and gps software are you on and are there any error logs or ram.txt in the debug folder of the device?
