I'm doing a 6 day bikepacking hut trip from Telluride, CO to Moab, UT. I have had my 5x for over a year and have it pretty dialed in. The longest GPS track I'm done was an ultra marathon that went a little sideways. It ended up taking me just under 12hr, however I had 56% of my battery left after the race.
For changing the watch, I'm planning on buying two large capacity Anker or RAVpower power banks. Those should have enough juice to change my watch and phone (running airplane mode). I may bring a Goal Zero solar panel backup, but it doesn't put out much power and takes up space.
The real question comes done to tracking. Daily riding will average 20 to 30 miles and we think the tracking time should be 4-ish hours (maybe up to 5).
I can either do an activity for each day or one long activity for the entire trip. The activity per day is easy. I start/stop each day like any other ride. The down side, in my mind, is there is no linkage between the activities. In Garmin they will all be single events. The other option is to you the 'Resume Later' option. This way I would have one track that shows the entire trip. This is what I'm leaning towards doing. I have used 'Resume Later' a few times when taking long breaks in activities (i.e. lunch). The option seems to work well and everything tracked correctly in Garmin Connect.
For those that have done multi-day activities, what is your tracking preference?
Will I overload the watch and/or Garmin Connect having a 6 day 4-5 hr/day track?
Does Garmin Connect handle activities that span multi-days?
