F5 losing connection to HRM Swim

Hello all,

I tried my new HRM Swim for the first time today. It connected to the watch first time with no issue. I then started a pool swim activity and the heart symbol showed up on the workout screen, suggesting the HRM was connected.

I noticed that after each interval, no HR data was displayed. I then completed the activity.

When I came to save, it said it could not find HR data and asked me to try again, I did so three times with no results. Both the watch and HRM were clear out of the water.

I opened the menu and went into sensors and accessories and noticed that the HRM was disconnected. Upon connecting it again and going back into the swim activity, I was able to download the HR data and save the activity normally. All HR data was properly recorded against the activity with no gaps.

It seems that for whatever reason, the connection dropped at some point early in the swim.

My question is, would repositioning the strap or otherwise making it lose contact with the skin for a second, result in it becoming disconnected from the watch? Thats the only thing I could think of.

I cannot work out if this is user error, or if I should ask for a replacement HRM Swim.

I'd appreciate any advice.

Thank you.
  • I have been using the HRM-Swim for two years and have occasionally seen such behaviour, but not for quite a while. It was usually related to rogue firmware.

Please bear in mind that when at the moment you press start it is important that the watch and strap are in contact. I usually do 10 x 10 lap with a two minute rest. Now for me, at the end of each interval, I am checking the stats with watch and strap in the air and in contact. When I have had the occasionally problem it may have also been interrelated that I wasn't doing intervals and just continuous swimming and didn't have the periodic contact between watch and strap.

But anyhow, it is early days, I reckon there is nothing wrong with the strap. Incidentally if you are at the wall and can't get both in the air you don't actually need to. They can talk underwater but have to be touching. Hold your watch against the pod for a couple of seconds at the end of an interval and it will catch the interval stats.
