Since v13 my Fenix 5 is restarting every 3-5 min during workouts. It happens when running and i have my own created interval workout started. Totally frustrating!!! The device restarts and then ask if I want to continue...
Since yesterday I'm experiencing the same issue. Even in watchmode, like lillahimmel said. Restarting to factory defaults has not solve the issue. It's too early to be sure, but I just disabled the bluetooth connection with my iPhone and seems to be working. Maybe Fenix is trying to sync with the phone every 3 mins approx and something wrong in this sync causes the restart?
I started experiencing the same issue shortly after upgrading to v13 about two weeks ago. I called Garmin support early last week working through several troubleshooting steps resulting in Garmin shipping a new 'refurbished' unit to me since I was still under warranty. After setting up the new unit yesterday, I am now experiencing the exact same issue of rebooting even in watch mode. Per fxReina post, the reboot does appear to be somewhat related to synching, but I can also say that I see it reboot seemingly independent of a manual synch. I have sent the requested debug files to .
I have tried to call Garmin support today but the support line and some of the web support is down today. Is there any update on what appears to be a defect in v13?
I can confirm that after switching-off bluetooth connection with the iPhone the reboot has not happened now for the last 12 hours. Sync throught Garmin Express worked perfectly. Just a while ago, I found a new Garmin connect version for the iPhone available on the App Store, and after updating I have reactivated bluetooth and everything is working fine so far. So seems to me Garmin fixed the problem with that new version of Connect.
I had the same problem today, Fenix 5, restarted several times during one workout. And the new iPhone connect app won't solve the problem since I use my Fenix together with my Samsung S9. Any solution yet?
UPDATE: Following the posts from fxReina , on Tuesday (April 30) I similarly switched off Bluetooth (BT) on my watch and never experienced the crash/reboot while BT was off. I then upgraded to the latest Garmin Connect version (v4.18.0.16) on my iPhone 7 (iOS 12.2). Within an hour and with BT ON on the watch, my watch started the crash/reboot cycle again. After an hour of multiple crash/reboots, I turned BT OFF and went 20+ hours with zero crashes/reboots with BT OFF.
Based on guidance from Garmin Product.Support and Garmin Fenix 5 Beta group, on Wednesday (May 1) I upgraded to the latest beta release v13.22 on my watch. Immediately after the upgrade, I kept BT OFF and ran over two hours successfully without any crash/reboots (again with BT OFF).
After a successful synch with Garmin Express connected via USB to my laptop, I turned BT ON and have since gone 5 days without any crashes/reboots. I updated my ticket with Garmin Support (and Beta Fenix) with my results.
I am still waiting on exactly what the issue was and confirming the Beta version actually had a fix... or if the installation of the Beta release simply did a different type of reset. Either way, I am happy just hoping it won't come back again.
Experiencing similar issues - will send the same information. I am on 4.18.0.16 of Garmin Connect. My Fenix 5 is on v13.00 (a734cda). How do I get v13.22?
I have the same issue. Clearly caused by the speed/cadence sensor on my Wattbike Atom but the beta firmware does not resolve it. Deleting the sensor works for now.
