Bad recording, again

This is the second time this has happened to me, a out and back ride is registering only the difference between start and finish distance. In this case, 0.13mi

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3538833225

In addition, it missed my heart rate for the entire first 1/3 of my ride, and it wasn't even very bumpy, while the watch is adjusted snugly. Just basic stuff for a fitness device doesn't work very well at times. I still like it fir hikes, where it excels, but it seems the rest of the sports I am interested in, it does a poor job.

And no, I am not going to toss on a chest strap heart monitor for a short ride, granted anywhere around me, while short, isn't easy.

    Attaching the fit file...
  • What model of speed sensor do you have?

LiquidSquid - the distance issue is being caused by your speed sensor not doing what it's meant to do. If it is the older style then check the magnet alignment and that the magnet is within a couple of millimetres of the arm AND inline with the mark on the arm. If all of that is good then it could well be time for a new battery.

If you do need to install a new battery then take the old one out, turn it upside down and reinsert and push down for approx 20secs. Remove said upside down battery and insert new battery the right way.

And there are numerous other threads on the issues with that optical HR sensors so I am not going to regurgitate what is in them.

    Otherwise - check this file.

Now I remember... thanks for the brain kick. I uninstalled the speed sensor, leaving just the cadence sensor as I was having better luck with the GPS for speed and distance. It was working this way last fall, but somehow it is back in the sensor list and being used. It is not a battery issue as the same device is posting the cadence fine. It is probably the distance between the pickup and magnet is out of whack from storage over the winter. I didn't check it as I thought I wasn't using it.

I have been having a greater deal of difficulty over time with the HRM as I get in better shape. It seems my heart rate can more quickly change in response to load, and blows right by the ability of the HRM to track it. Also, my wrist wasn't all that warm as it was quite chilly out so I can imagine it struggled even under my sleeve.

My biggest concern is over-doing myself. I have an old full-suspension bike and knobby tires which requires a LOT of effort to get up hills. Since my mind is still set on riding like I did when I was 20, I find myself pushing my tired old bones a bit too hard. I am trying to use the HRM to limit myself to stay out of zone 5 for long periods. Hard to do when my HRM reads 1/2 of actual. Last fall I took a ride on a warm-ish day, not paying attention and having fun, and I was well into zone 5 for 40 minutes. I didn't feel so good afterwards.

I need to trade my precious antique bike in for a road bike. I haven't been on trails in a long time, and those fat tire bikes whoop its butt. If I could afford it, I would get both.

    Thanks.

Oh, thanks for the fixed file. I see my distance showed up, and there is nothing that can be done with missing data for speed.
