Training Plans

Now Garmin don't seem to have a training plan specific forum, so I will stick with my unit forum. A question about the Garmin half and full marathon training plans and their suggestions for the long runs. Now I have successfully used the half marathon plan for 3 successful half marathons, 1 in Boston and 2 at Port Macquarie. My last one had a 13 minute cut to my Port PB !! I am now using the Garmin 3 session level 1 pace plan for the Gold Coast Marathon, my first attempt. Up until now, I have generally not completed the suggested walk / run methods for the long runs, just combining the times for the overall suggested time for the actual session. I thought I would try the "suggested" walk / run method on my current plan. Obviously the average pace for the session is lower with the walk / run when compared to a straight out run, but the body does feel better using the walk / run method, for the obvious reasons. My question is though, whilst this seems to be a good training method to build up to the race, what do you do at the race??? Do you continue with that walk / run method or do you just get out there and run to the desired pace you set???? What long distance running training suggest such a walk / run method and for what reasons??
