Heart Rate gradual drop off during workout

Afternoon all

Whilst running this morning with my 5X Sapphire connected to my Garmin chest strap I noticed that my HR was constant at 132, knowing that it was in fact higher than that based on my perceived effort.

I upped my pace and my HR dropped by a couple of beats and then proceeded to drop by a beat or two every few seconds until it was below 100, despite my running pace remaining constant.

This is the first time this has happened, and on the same running route which I have followed many times.

Anyone have any ideas what is going on here? Is the chest strap sensor battery on the way out? It's about 9 months old.

Thanks in advance for your help.
  • - For battery - With the sensor on, from the watch Settings->Sensors & Accessories->"heart Rate Strap name"->about it will show the battery state (although only text based such as "OK"). 9 months with lots of use (and maybe leaving the sensor connected to the strap when not being used) will easily use up the battery. Just replace it and see.
    - The strap itself may be failing depending on how much use and how clean it has been kept.
    - Not likely due to a bad skin/strap connection as this normally gets better as you sweat so not usual to see it drop during the run.
  • Thanks for the swift response. I'll check the status of the sensor later.

I've removed the sensor after each use and washed the strap and let dry naturally so I'm fairly confident that the strap itself is in a good condition.

    Hi,

I have the same problem. I have changed the battery twice. I'm 12.83 firmware and hrm-run. Any solution?
  • same problem and same behaviour but only for whirstl sensor. I have a fenix 5x plus. If i use the chest band works fine!
