3 years later but I have the same question. Did you get any feedback about this?
I didn't, and haven't used it for a long time... but would still be curious to know.
I use the Free strength activity quite often. I can't say for sure about calories but I'd assume editing the weight would not affect it since Garmin devices calculate active calories based on the activity level, type of activity, age, height, weight, gender, and heart rate (if available).
When using a 5kg dumbbell in each hand, I enter the combined weight of the dumbbells (10kg). If I'm using one dumbbell in both hands I use the weight of the dumbbell.
Hi! Actually I don't care much about calories, but I've seen it affects the training load statistics, so I was wondering what was the correct way, what is garmin official suggestion about this. I use your same logic.
I couldn't find any official recommendation on Garmin's site (didn't look too hard though) . When I first started using Strength app, I just used the dumbbell weight all the time. But looking at the "Total Volume" stat in the workout details page was way off. It was a choice of doubling the reps or doubling the weight. i.e. If I used a 10kg dumbbell in each hand, I either lifted 10kg 60 times or I lifted 20kg 30 times. Works out the same.
