Updates to Connect online mystery

How is my Fenix 5 updating connect online when my mobile device does not have the Connect App running? It would appear that at regular intervals, if my watch is within range of my phone it is just auto updating without the app running.

The Connect app is intended to run in the background - this is required to function as a smartwatch.

If you want to turn auto-update off, do it on the watch:

Settings> System> Software Update> Auto Update = Off
