GPS 2.50 update

My watch updated to GPS version 2.50 and since then the GPS accurancy is way worse and it takes much more time to find GPS signal. I don't use GALILEO or GLONASS.
  • Have you taken the device about 20 minutes with satellite reception outside, so that the gps fw can "acclimatize"?
  • I'm using GPS+Galileo, 1 second recording with 2.50 and it seems no different for me. No better or no worse that I usually get. Lock is usually pretty quick. I'm in North Florida and just ride MTB in wooded/open areas though.
  • gps looks fine on my tracks. first gps search always takes long on my watch after an update. doesn't matter if EPO is update to date or not. like Volker said, after around 12 (or 20) minutes of gps use the EPO should be fine and fast again.
  • I concur, 2.50 is acting a little wonky - elevations are off (8.89km run this morning showed 227m climb, then 335m after elevation correction on connect garmin website. Normally corrections on same route run >200 times shows variance of +/-20m, not 108m... also, distance is not tracking correctly. My turnaround at the top of the hill is exactly 4km... last couple of weeks varies between 3.8 and 4.2km. I'm using GPS and Galileo for past 12 months. Auto climb is OFF, Lock on Road is OFF, Data Recording is on SMART.
  • 2 are the same runs. The routes and pace starts to go bad under trees or some buildings.

But with the first run the pace stays much more constant:

With the second run (2.50) in the second half of the run pace goes totally crazy:

At the end of the second run the last kilometer was with 4:0.. pace, but it was an easy run, so it was totally bad :(

Of course I will investigate further, when I get injury free, for now no runs :(
Maybe I will try GALILEO and GLONASS also.

  • BirtokAdam i would not count on a single record. there are also good and bad gps days. depending on the angle of the satellites creating more or less reflections on surfaces like buildings. looking at your runs, the difference of the pace is not so big. (good there is one peak) but the big difference is the "scaling" in the graphs. on the first one it is scaled from 2:30 to 10:00 pace. the second one only from 4:00-8:00 minutes pace. so i am thinking that the first one had more "spikes" which are smoothed out, then the second one.
hope you can understand my not so good english.

BirtokAdam, nothing special with the data in the FIT files

you are running in a challenging area ;) lots of water
and high buildings where your GPS track goes wonky

as others have said, after getting a new GPS firmware
best practice, restart the watch and put it outside in GPS mode for at least 20min to get the complete GPS almanac

    happy recovering

Even since I updated at 2.50 I have problems with the track and with the distance. how can I do it to fix and when you say you put it out in gps mode you can do it now or only when it has just been updated? Put it in GPS means to start it as a normal activity workout? if necessary, can you go back to the previous softwer? Thanks for the answers

But do you think they will update the GPS version again or do you say that it is better to put the old beta? Thanks again
