A long time ago I added a favourite 'run', it's open ended, no time, no distance. Can I add another 'run' favourite that is a 5km run?
  • No. You should create a workout and use that.

Not sure what you mean. Can I create a 'Run' activity as a favourite that has the option to be an open run and a 5km run?

Hi Trippy, sorry I'm a bit of a ludight with this! I logged in but don't see where I can create a workout?
  • I have provided you a direct link to the place in Garmin Connect where Workouts are created. I suggest you type "How to create a garmin workout" into google.

Ok this was awesome thank you! How do I find the workout on my Fenix? And is there a way to add a shortcut to this workout on my Fenix?
  • TomSynnott once you have created the workout you need to send it to your watch you can do this from connect

Then when you go into the run activity you should be able to pick the workout and start it - you can schedule the workouts in your calendar and they will be synchronised with your watch.

If you just want one activity that can be open or 5K you could just set autolap in the Run activity to 1km and if you are doing 5k just stop when it alerts you at 5k or carry on if you want an open run and you'll get the splits logged for the 1 K intervals also.
  • After sending the workout to the watch (it can be created in Connect or Express), then once you go into the activity, press the middle left-hand (up/menu) button, select “training”, then “My Workouts “. You can then select the one you want from the list of workouts you’ve sent to the watch. You can view the steps or just start the workout. It works great!
  • Of course you can also easily add another favorite run if that is really what you want to do. Add a new activity profile and call it '5K Run'. Copy your Run profile and add to your favorites when prompted. Within that profile you could set a 5K distance alert. Alerts wont create laps or stop the activity but you would have an activity that behaves as the standard run profile and then alerts you when you have achieved the 5K distance.
