Country specific versions

Hi,

I bought a Garmin Fenix 5x not long ago here in NZ and was vastly disappointed that, unlike the old forerunner 225, it didn't support any European languages and also couldn't be coerced into doing so by flashing it with a different firmware.

I sold it on at a loss.

I'm now contemplating buying a new one, but would like to get some transparency as to which models for which markets exist, and what the situation regarding the available languages for each is.

All I can say is : Do NOT buy any Garmin APAC product. APAC products are 2nd grade products in Garmin and they do not get updates or beta software in a timely fashion. I think APAC watches are always behind…

I don't know if it helps but I have a North American version 5X and if I look in Garmin Express it gives me the optional language files in the attached picture. I have not tried any of them but it does look like there is some other language support of some sort. ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1449688.jpg

Cheers outlaw24 - really appreciate the effort. Can you tell me your Fenix' model number?
I've found ones saying 010-01733-01 and 010-01733-10 (the latter only offering English, Malay and maybe two or three other Asian language(s)).

My model number is 010-01733-05 and it is a Canadian "topo" map model.

I think APAC watches are always behind because Garmin can't do the multi language "builds" of the software automatically for languages with "interesting" character sets.

Buy a US/EU model - and spend the extra on buying local maps - or find a way to download free maps to cover your area.
