Mac/PC not seeing F5 (12.51)

Not sure if this is a beta issue, or I need a hard reset...

I don't plug my F5 into my computer (Mac Mini and PC) very often, so I don't know exactly when this started but..

I plug it in - it displays the little notification cutout showing charging is happening

Then, a few minutes later it says "USB Storage Mode" (slow, as if struggling)

If I select Yes, I get the typical green screen with the %agge charge and the USB icon but neither my mac or PC see it - not in device manager on the PC.

So it's recognising theres a computer on the other side of the lead, but not doing the business of exposing the filesystem to the PC

Garmin Express doesn't see it, but Garmin Connect is fine.

As I'm on 12.51, will 12.xx (the next final) come through as normal on GCM, so I can do the update when it arrives and re-test this?

If I need to do a reset, will TrueUp restore my VO2Max and recovery etc

Did a reset, still seeing the issue - so will wait for next final - but TrueUp works a charm! Watch seems to have picked everything back up!
  • I also suddenly have the same kind of issue since 12.30, the latest official release. I sync via phone, but tend to charge when taking a shower by plugging the watch into the Mac. Out of the blue I now get the normal process on my watch, but instead of showing the disk connected icon, it pops up almost immediately with "Disk not ejected properly". Was starting to suspect connection issues, but your post is making me wonder...
  • Everything working normally here with both Mac and PC with FW 12.30

Im going to see what happens for the next 12.51+ official as obviously I can't update to a beta without mounting it - although I will try it with my work pc (W7) tomorrow. I suspect it's a software issue as the watch does ask to go into USB Mass Storage mode but I've emailed Garmin about the cost of out-of-warranty repair just in case.

Did any of you guys attempt to reboot the PC with the watch connected?
I had the same on 12.51, which the watch showing the yellow exclamation mark under device manager, with the following error: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)

Rebooting the PC would make the watch visible until disconnected and reconnected back. If I did that, same thing happened, so another reboot was required.
