GPS stuck at 4.40 (!)

Hi all

I upgraded manually to 12.21 due to battery drain issues. I got an error while booting the watch saying "update error". Apparently all is working fine, but I checked that GPS was not correctly updated and remains on 4.40 (!)

I tried to update with Garmin Express, Im now in version 12.30 but GPS is still on 4.40 (!). I tried again, reboot, removed /REMOTESW/*.gdc, retry, reboot, retry... but still not updated.

Is there any solution for this (apart from Factory reset :) )

Thanks in advance!
  • Try using Garmin web updater, I solved it so!
  • Many thanks!! It worked with the web updater.

I have the same problem, and I try with the web updater, the funny thing is that it's trying to update to version 2.30 (????) when i try it give me "corrupted file" on a PC and "failed" on a mac..
so I don't even know what is the last version of the SW I need to have.. and I do have issue with GPS accuracy (a LOT even with the glonass on).. so .. any other suggestions?

the web updater provide me the option to update to: GPS Chipset Type M5 (2957) 2.30... so why 2.30 if I have 4.4???

    thanks.

Even though the numbers of the different versions makes no sense, 2.30 is the most recent.

AntonioA68 I misunderstood your post. I thought you were saying that web updater would allow you to update, but you weren't sure that the 2.30 version was the latest. I'm not sure why you're unable to update. Hopefully someone here can assist you and you won't have to go through the hassle of a factory reset.

so this is what I tried..

    -web updater fail
-garmin express.. fail doesn't even see the update AND I cannot install any update/any map... on the first phase it get an error.
    - I've also tried to update to a beta version to force the GPS firmware.. no luck.. it execute the SW update, but guess what.. it remains to 12.30 without upgrading it.. (sob :-( )
tried with 2 pc and a mac.. 3 different cables..
    - I'll travel for the next 2 weeks.. hopefully, I'll be able to open a ticket..but at this point.. either a Hard reset.. or it's the watch itself.. i wonder how much is the cost of giving it back out of warrant and get it fixed..

    :-( sad face....

AntonioA68 I had the same problem with my FR235 a couple of years back. I called support and they walked me through deleting a corrupt file on the watch. I don't recall what folder or file though. Try calling tomorrow when they're open before trying a factory reset. It may be something as simple as the issue I had. If you're lucky, someone on the forum will be able to assist you before then. Just make a back-up of anything you delete so you don't further complicate the problem. There are some really smart people on this forum who may be able to help. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them. :(

    Same issue here?

i had no luck even with the hard reset (saw your post after it.. ) the SW is 12.30 but the GPS is 4.40 (!) and I cannot update anymore any maps (even the small ones.. ) it fail in the first step that is the preparation of the watch.. I guess I have to talk with the support, and see what are my options.. it's a damn good watch and it's a shame it's not updating.. (and my Vo2Max is gone :-( )

yeah seems the same issue in the other thread.. mine is a 5x.. but still the same..
