No anaerobic benefit

I’ve been doing a series of 20-30 minute bike turbo trainer interval training sessions but am consistenrly seeing no anaerobic training effect on my Fenix 5. Has anyone any idea why not?

Details of typical session:
- Session length 23 minutes
- Stages Power Meter
- Garmin rear wheel speed sensor
- Fenix 5 wrist HR sensor
- Lactate threshold 150bpm
- FTP 170w (yes I know it’s low!)

- 5 minutes warm up at around 150w
- 6No 1 minute intervals at about 270w
- 2 minutes recovery between each at about 80w

Heart rate is showing over 150 for about 30-40 seconds of each interval (going from zone 3.4 to 5.0 during the interval)
  • I agree with philip - check your HR zones, zone method and max HR.

Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC) is the major factor in calculating training, and Firstbeat's EPOC algorithm is based on your HR as a percentage of maxHR. If you are using LTHR to set zones, and haven't adjusted your maxHR (especially from the age-based default), then it is possible that the algorithm doesn't think your are in the anaerobic zone (as a % of an incorrect high maxHR).

Pretty sure they’re accurate. LTHR is 150. For 30-40 seconds of each interval I was above that. Max heart rate is 170
