Hi all, I thought I'd left this issue dead and buried having binned a Vivoactive 3 in favour of the F5, trouble is that since the software upgrade to 12.00 my it seem this F5 is suffering with sensor hub crashes, specifically the onboard heart rate monitor, anyone else seeing this issue? been doing leg presses (no arms involved and watch securely fastened) and met with the HR stuck at 85 for most of the workout until climbing wildly to 145.
I don't think this is a crash as much as I believe the F5 has a great deal of difficulty tracking abrupt changes in heart rate. I have the same problem with hockey and other sports where I go from 0 to 100 quickly. The VA3 (I had one also) would track these changes just fine, and I could easily see I was overdoing it in hockey. The F5 has done a poor job here. It is particularly aggravating as this is supposed to be the high-end sports watch.
I may be wrong, but in an effort to conserve battery, the sample time of the OHRM changes along with detected heart rate. The rate of change in sample rate is limited in speed, so abrupt changes may be missed as you heart rate sails on by the maximum the current sample rate can "see" at a given time. I wrote the beta team about this a while back, and the newer sensor hub did seem to improve a little as it caught a few of my ice time sessions, where before it missed them all.
I would urge you to find your associated fit files and send a bug report to the beta team. In addition try the beta release to see if you find improvements. I have been using the beta release for a while. I have yet to test it skiing, and I am afraid of one user saying skiing tracking isn't working.
