I just bought a used Fenix 5 and assume it is just the standard one. I do wear it everyday all the time. My question is should I be worried about scratching the bezel or the glass? I used to have the 235 which seems smaller. but the 235 did not have a bezel so I always used a screen protector on that one.
I don't know if you should worry. It all depends if you mind scratches. Personally I have de F5 sapphire. De glass is still perfect, de bezel is scratched but I'm not worried at all. LOL
Unless you have the Sapphire version, I would strongly suggest getting a screen protector. The crystal is in line with the bezel and doesn’t sit deep like on a G-Shock so there is a really good chance that you’ll scratch the lens.
I've had my standard F5 since release in early 2017 and worn it 24/7 except for charging. The bezel has stood to the test of time remarkably well, a few bright spots but in my opinion in keeping with the spirit of the appearance of an outdoor orientated watch.
However, I've probably been through at least 6 screen protectors. If I hadn't had them fitted the who knows? Screen protectors are cheap, refurbishment and repairs at Garmin aren't.
I've had the F5 for about two months and already have a very fine scratch across the glass and some abrasions on the bezel... not really sure how it got there.
It depends a bit on your use case. I have had my F5 for nearly 2 years with no screen protector, and have no scratches. If you regularly trail run, or climb, or work in an environment where scratches are more likely, then a screen protector is probably wise. Screen protectors are cheap, replacing the glass is not.
In horologically standing point this watch is not that expensive. And if you consider the amount of tech that it has, how much could they invest in quality housing? Few years ago i gave nearly as much for Citizen Eco Drive which has a fraction of technology in it compared to Fenix and still has sings of ware. As it's said before i suggest to buy silver one, at least scratches will be less visible.
Short of a few scratches and dings on the bezel, my F5 Sapphire looks as good as the day I bought it. The glass is in perfect condition with no screen protector. I wear it 24/7 minus showers and charging.
