5X and Galileo - GPS version shows (!)

Download Garmin Webupdater and it should give you the opportunity to download the newest GPS version. Galileo once fully deployed, should be more accurate than GPS and GLONASS.

The (!) behind your GPS version means that your watch is angry and may explode any second.

whats the difference between garmin web updater and express?

Garmin Webupdater helps if you need to reinstall your current software because there is an issue and/or if you need to update other files (like GPS versions). I’ll use express to update maps, etc but I find it to be less of a tool if you need to “problem solve”.

You also do not need a garmin connect account to use WebUpdater.

I confirm Galileo OK after update via Garmin Express.
I must confess Galileo results are not as accurate as I hoped, but that's another story ;-)

It seems more of the Galileo satellites are in useable mode (https://www.gsc-europa.eu/system-status/Constellation-Information) and I have noticed an improvement to its tracking since it was first added to the 5X. In fact, I use GPS+Galileo now and find the results very useable. Though I'm in North Florida so results will very.

I think to get the real promises that Galileo is offering we'll need new devices with things like dual band GPS. Fenix 6 perhaps.

If you see (!) symbol, it means update has already been downloaded on the watch and waiting to be installed. Go Settings > System > Software Update and run the update in such situations.
