Hello Garmin people, since yesterday I have really furstraring issue. I have Xiaomi mi A1 and yesterday I updated to 9.0 android pie. Since then the Bluetooth connection is really bad and keeps diaconecting all the time. In the past I had stable connection for 20 mettres and now it keeps disconnecting even if I move for 2 meters. Sometimes it reconnects but it is really unstable. I tried almost everything I know. Removed the device from Garmin Connect, unpaired device,cleared Bluetooth cache plus data, hard reset of the phone and still it keeps disconnecting which was not the case one day ago. If I pair my Bluetooth speaker I have absolutely no issue even if I go in the near room and I have walls and doors between me and the phone. I don't know how it is possible this in Android pie. Any ideas how I can bring back my stable Bluetooth connection ?
  • Hi Mitko,
    Try this:
    1. Go to Settings;
    2. Apps & Notification;
    3. Find Garmin Connect here;
    4.Select Advanced;
    5. In the Advanced tab find and allow: "Modify system settings";

    This seems to work for me - I am with Xiaomi Mi A1 and Android Pie from yesterday and had the same problem.

    Hi Anatoli,

    Thanks I did it it yesterday but I did not see any improvement. It looks somehow that every minute the Bluetooth is retarting and I cannot make it work nonstop. I regret so much for this uodate.

    When I am at the Connect app and looking at something the pop up Buble "Fenix is connected " appears almost every minute. It seems that it loses connections somehow. That's how I under the issue is still here.

    Update: I connected the watch to my mom's Samsung a7 Android 8.1 and there is absolutely no issue. Stable Bluetooth connection around the house. Once connected back to the Xiaomi Android pie the issue is still here. Apparently the Pie keeps shutting the Bluetooth in the background every 30 secs causing this problem. I removed Bluetooth from the battery optimization but still no improvement. Any ideas if there is any setting or I will have to live with that ?
  • Reproducible, confirmed, nothing helped. There is a ticket opened in Garmin system regarding this.

    So can you tell me if it is Connected application issue with Android pie or clearly it is Android based problem not related to Garmin. I have not tried to connect the watch to Garmin Express and I'd there is any Bluetooth update which works better with Pie. The real frustration is that everything was Bell and whistles in Oreo absolutely zero issues with anything.

    Hm, you are right. It disconnects after some time... I hope this will be fixed.
  • The facts: on 8.1 it was ok (with multiple Garmin devices connected to the phone at once). It happened after 9.0 update. I guess some sort of the API's changed and application should use these new functions to tell the OS what is required for the reliable connection. Let's wait until the first update to 4.14 and see what is going on after that update. Keep fingers crossed)

    The version of what is standing for 4.14 ? Is it the Bluetooth ? If yes can you tell me from where I can find what is mine at the moment. I have updated to 12.0 from the Garmin Mobile. I have never used the Garmin Express. I have the watch only since 1 month.
  • He talks about Garmin Connect - current version is 4.13.5

    Great thanks for the answer Anatoli. Let's hope Garmin will take a look at it. My concern is that this is phone issue rather than Garmin Connect issue with the app.

    I wrote an email to Garmin Support and will update here if there is any solution which we are not seeing.

    I had the really same issue with my Fenix 5 sapphire after upgrading to Android Pie on my Xiaomi yesterday.
    But I was able to fix it following the informations given in this thread :
    https://forums.garmin.com/forum/into-sports/garmin-connect-mobile-application/garmin-connect-mobile-android/1389025-android-pie-problem

    The problem doesn't comes from GCM, but the way we have to pair the device and the phone under Android 9.
    It seems that we have to pair it with the phone, before going into GCM app.
