Block notifications that wi-fi calling is available? They pop up every 2 minutes

I have a Huawei P20 Pro phone which I connect to my Fenix 5s. I have a Vodafone UK simcard, and have recently activated wi-fi calling. I have tried it with sims from two other networks, but this only happens with Vodafone: I get continuous notifications that wi-fi calling is available - sometimes one every 2 or 3 minutes, even when I am sitting at the same desk and not moving.

Is there a way to block these notifications? They're really annoying and distracting.

I stopped the pop-ups and vibrations on my phone this way:

setting -> apps -> more -> show system processes -> phone -> notifications -> wi-fi calling and disable all the options (display in status bar, etc.)

So now the phone no longer buzzes for this, but the watch still does. When it does, clicking on options -> block app (on the watch) does absolutely nothing. Maybe because the app sending the notifications is a system app? About this, I have tried, from the Garmin Connect app, to go to settings -> smart notifications, but system apps, like "phone" are not shown at all.

Any ideas? Thanks!
  • Deactivate wifi calling on phone
  • Had something similar with getting notifications when I came in/out of reach for bluetooth connection or even worse, was at the edge of it when it kept buzzing all the time. On the watch I disabled Alerts but kept Smart Notifications enabled. Now, I only get notifications for the apps I want to bug me.
    Settings -> Phone -> Alerts -> Off

Edit: Have the same phone btw
  • TrippyZ , disabling wifi calling is not really an option; while I don't need it when I am on the underground, I need it when I'm home, where the 4G and 3G signal are quite poor.

castensson , I have double checked, and "Settings -> Phone -> Alerts " is already off. I can only infer that these must be "smart notifications"; if I disabled smart notifications, I'd no longer be notified of emails, whatsapp messages etc on the watch. Is there a way to show system apps in the smart notifications settings of the Garmin app?

I have also contacted Vodafone. They said they have disabled the notifications on their end, but whatever they have done hasn't worked and hasn't changed anything.
  • Hi All.

This issue is not Garmin related.

I have Xiaomi Poco F3 phone with stock Android 13 ROM. I have two SIM cards, one UK Vodafone and second one is 1p Mobile (EE network carrier). WiFi calling is enabled on both SIMs because I have poor cellular reception in my area but perfect WiFi in my house. But only Vodafone that is a real pest with their never-ending notifications. Disabling WiFi Calling is not an option for me.

When I run custom LineAge ROM on the same phone I had no such issue. I also did not encounter the same on Motorola Moto G31 phone with same two SIMs. But more and more I incline to think it is Vodafone that keeps doing this even if they may not admit it.

I run the search and found an article on XDA Developers forum with the solution.

Someone under nick @otonieru suggested “Use nCleaner app from play store, and under "Ongoing notification" section, just disable any notifications you want to hide”.

Notification Cleaner (nCleaner) has worked for me. I got rid of the frustrating Vodafone WiFi calling notification. It now does not come up on my Garmin Forerunner 255S, so I no longer need to clear these annoying notifications that otherwise I was not able to block.

I hope this helps to you and anyone else.
