Update Europa 2.0 failed

Since a few weeks I have a Garmin Fenix 5x. Every time I connect with Garmin Express the update Europa 2.0 failes. Garmin Express says the update went wrong. I've tried a hard reset of my Garmin. I have enough space on my harddisk. Who can help me? ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1434294.png
  • Mac or Windows? There have been some issues with Garmin Express for Mac, but appears to be resolved after the last update.

    please install the software BASECAMP by Garmin on your PC and report the maps names and version you find in Maps --> Manage Maps Products

  • you need to wait for BaseCamp to completely load the maps from the watch
    it may take more than 10 minutes
    THEN Post the screenshot from the Map Product Manager
    My guess is you're still on TopoActive Europe V3,
    latest should be V4
  • Indeed I've TopoActive Europe V3. I think Garmin Express doesn't recognize the V3. So the update to V2 failes. How can I upgrade to V4 then?
  • If you want to go to the latest V4 here is a way (but this won't necessarily solve the garmin express issue cause it's actually related to a ghost map in Garmin Servers)
    you need to check via basecamp the filename of the TopoActiveEurope map (should be 2 files with extension .IMG each of them bigger than 1GB)
    using FileExplorer (from pc) locate these files on your Garmin and delete them.
    Unplug and reboot the watch
    on pc delete all the files in the following folders (same affect of a fresh Garmin Express reinstall + pc reboot):
    %tmp%
    %windir%\temp
    C:\ProgramData\Garmin
    C:\Users\icema\AppData\Local\Garmin_Ltd._or_its_subsid


    reconnect the watch, reconfigure your Garmin Express
    in garmin Express go to Tools&content --> Purchased
    Here you should find the topoactive map to download and reinstall
    If you don't you need to wait for Garmin chat support to be active (depends on your country.....NOT all the Countryes have the chat support, so eventually go to support.garmin.com/.../ during the UK working week timetable/timefuse end open a CHAT session
    you'll tell them you deleted the TopoActive map from your device in order to have it upgraded to the latest
    They will delete the map from your account, than add it back
    After this clean your Garmin Express (see above) and you'll find the TopoActive Maps of EU in the "purchase" tab for sure

    NOTE: get to this solution took me 4 chat session + 1 phone call + 1 day
    cause most of the Garmin Technicians will dismiss your assistance request with "yes we know there is a issue with Garmin Express, don't worry, you're on the latest map"
    which eventually may be true. Always ask them "Which map ver should I have?"
    note: to my experice they will 1st tell you the ver of the Western Europe Cycle MAPS, not the TopoActive....don't ask me why....
    NEVER tell them the ver you have before they tell you the release number.....cause eventually they'll try to fake you telleing YOUR ver is the latest (thus eventually it's not)
