Fenix 5 GPS - No Galilao - Update Issue?

I've spent a good hour trying to fix this today, then a good 20 minutes just trying to post for help on here.

I have the standard Fenix 5. When reading the patch notes for todays 12 update i noticed that the update i really wanted was actually released a while ago yet i still have no option to use Galilao...After looking a bit more into this i need GPS version 2.20 and i have 4.40 (higher gps version...?) with a little (!) next to it.

After looking around people said i needed to connect to Garmin Express so i downloaded it set it all up but it said i was all upto date. After i unplugged the watch from the computer i checked the update section, auto update is on but it also said "Update Available". I clicked on this and it said "GPS" so i clicked continue and all it says is "Update Failed, Try again from Garmin Connect".

I go on Garmin Connect and there is no option anywhere on there to do a watch upgrade. So basically im stuck. How do i update my GPS mode so i can make use of this feature?

Download the latest beta.

Follow the instructions for the update.
Basically connect your watch to your pc and place the gupXXXX.gcd file from , found in the GPS_v*** folder, into the \GARMIN\REMOTESW folder of the device

e.g: copy \fenix5_1158Beta\fenix5_1158Beta\GPS_v230\GUP2957.GCD from your pc to yor\GARMIN\REMOTESW on your watch

I had the exact same issue with my Fenix 5S. After stumbling around the forums long enough, I decided to give the Garmin Webupdater a shot (that's different than Garmin Express), and that did it successfully.

Thanks for the responses. I cant believe its this faffy to update the watch... I tried the web updater, shows some GPS M5 Chip update. Once installed says all is complete but when i click "Search for update" again it shows the same one and its just a vicious circle. Again no update done. Will try the beta thing :/.

I did the beta thing, and it now says i have GPS Version 0.00...(But i do have Galilao).

Go outside and get a GPS lock, then look again, and it should show the correct version. If you can't get a lock in 10 minutes or so (can take a while after changing the GPS firmware), you might have a problem.

That worked, it now says GPS 2.30. It did take longer as you said but hopefully a 1 off.

Perfect, you're all set, and yes that should be a one-off, the chip caches data which are lost when the firmware is updated.

I have the exact same issue with my Fenix 5 (12.0 from GConnect update).
After GExpress update I had the "Update Failed, Try again from Garmin Connect" message.
Next tryed : G webupdater -> seemsed ok but same message on the watch.
Instaled V 12.51 beta and ... exactly same message ...
Some idea ? Maybe i should try to delate something or even factory reset ?

Finally, I was able to install the GPS 2.30 after factory reset and after removing the gup2657.gct that I had put again in the GARMIN\REMOTESW folder. I think the probleme was i had a freeze during the first update.

For me as well, the only ting that made it budge was doing a factory reset. Only then did I get the GPS file to update. Every other trick above did not work for me.
