Incorrect Elevation changes on run

I have just purchased a Fenix 5, and have been using it for 2 weeks.

I have completed 3 very similar runs; each about 7km long. This is a run that should have about 50m of elevation gain. The last three runs have registered between 400-700m elevation gain. It is important to note that this doesn't happen on every run, but it has happened roughly 35-40% of the time.

I can correct this easily on the Garmin Connect website, but I feel like I shouldn't have to.

Has anyone else dealt with this problem?
  • Hi,

first - who it looks your altitude profile for the runs with the wrong gained elevation?

iIn case you have “one big climb” at the start and/or your gained elevation is significant higher then your lost elevation, then you probably have a wrong setting.

Check the barometer setup - change to automatic or altitude.
Calibrate the altitude on your F5 before you start your run. That can be done automatically by using “save your position” and add the altitude to that position.

Do not forget that the barometric altitude is also a function of temperature - so your watch should be “at the same temperature” (not to take the watch from the desk (20 degrees), go out, start the run and put it at your arm and “heat up” to 30+).
