Resting HR goes up during the day

My resting HR starts low in the morning and goes up during the day. I do not wear the watch during the night so I wake up start the watch, put it on the go back to bed for 10-15 minutes before starting to move around and perform the daily routine (which involves elevation of the HR). While I am still in bed I check the resting HR which is, let's say, 60. After I am done with the morning routine and I am resting drinking my water I check the resting HR and I find it to be 66, for example. Now is two days in a row. The 5x is quite new but I have a 3HR and it most definitely does not act the same. With the 3HR it was enough to keep for a little while the HR low and it will refresh the resting HR value to the lowest HR value kept for a while.
I am on the latest firmware. Any thoughts? Thank you.
  • I can not contact Garmin Support. For my country the only option is to go to the seller for help. There is no phone number or any other contact form. I am not on a beta firmware, I would have mentioned it at first and getting back to non beta software would have been the first step.
As far as I am concerned Garmin support is unhelpfull at best.
I am reading the rest HR by looking at the position of the last dot. After powering on the watch it takes a while for the seventh dot to appear and I memorize the position. After a while I check it and compare to the memorised value. Sometimes I synchronize the watch and check the value for the RHR in the Garmin Connect app just to be sure that my memory does not plays tricks on me.
I have tested to be sure and to be able to replicate the phenomenon before I started this thread. The reason for which I am taking my time in answering is that I am checking and rechecking the bahaviour to be sure that I am not missing anything.
I do believe that there are bugs in the watch firmware, like the one that clocked me with 161 km/h while running, or the one that shows you are climbing stairs on flat ground.
  • I don’t have anything else to offer to explain the phenomena you are seeing or resolve it. If you want to input to getting this registered as a bug and fed in to the software development, then the best way is to move to the public beta releases and email in logical and factual reports of issues you observe. I fully accept this is not what everyone wants to do or has time to do though.
  • Try to completely reset your watch (don't pair to GCM/GC just yet) and see if the problem persists.
  • I am rather reluctant to reset the watch due to the lenghty process of "getting to know me again" I have reinstalled the firmware and I am currently testing. The next step will be resetting it.

I've got the opposite. I wear my Fenix 5x everywhere but the shower (because it's charging then). I wake up and my RHR is 65ish. By the time I get ready for the day, it's dropped to 55, and then somewhere around 50 before lunch.
  • That is actually the normal behavior. RHR should never go up.
  • There are days when the watch is acting as it should, 2 maybe 3 days, then is starting to go up again. I have hoped that maybe version 12 of the firmware will cure it but it was not so.
Resetting the watch seems the only course available to me before returning it.
  • I have reset the watch to defaults then reinstalled the firmware. It still does not look right but I will let it be for a while to see what is goining on.
  • There is no improvement after the reset.
  • Yesterday I have sent the watch back to the store. Hopefully the problem will be solved.
