I want to have a screen for skiing with more data fields all on one screen than are in the existing built-in screens for that activity. When i go to "add new" and then "layout" the most data fields i see offered is 4. Is there a way to get a screen with more than 4 on it, without becoming a software developer and learning a programming language? I see posted screens in IQ with quite a bit more fields on them, but do not see a way to create those from the watch.
Some of those CIQ data fields are customisable (typically through the phone app). I use the BigNum field, which allows up to 6 fields, while still being pretty readable.
Thanks! Any suggestions as to the best link with information that somebody trying to develop a screen or face could use that would explain this all? As well as what/how to use the "BigNum" field? A search in the manual for "bignum" did not find it anywhere. Thanks!
I don't know the BigNum field, but from mcalista's description, it sounds like a CIQ datafield. These are fields that you download to your watch through Garmin Express on the PC or Garmin Connect Mobile on your phone. GE and GCM are also the places where you configure the contents and the behaviour of a downloaded CIQ field.
After downloading and configuring, you have to configure your activity app to use the field in a data screen. This is done in the watch (like you have already been doing with the other fields). The downloaded CIQ fields are available in the first group, "ConnectIQ Fields", in the menu where you pick the data fields.
To learn about how do do things with CIQ, there's the Garmin Developer Blog and the Connect IQ Developer Forum.
The way the CIQ DFs with a large number of fields work, is they are built as a full screen/one field layout data field, and the DF mainages the full screen.
There's also a subforum where you can suggest something for others to build CIQ App Ideas
